The first sighting (below) in Mexico is appropriate given that its production will take place primarily or entirely at the BMW San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico. G42 production will begin August 2021 and last until March 2029. The current (F22) 2 Series coupe ends production in June 2021. According to our future models info, potential models for G42 could include 220i, 220d, 220d xDrive, 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, and M240i xDrive (or potentially M245i as our info indicates).
Despite the car being on sale for less than a year, BMW is already planning a facelift for the electric iX3 SUV. It’ll coincide with the company’s update for the combustion-engined X3, which is expected to receive its mid-cycle refresh later this year. Up front, there’s a new bumper with a couple of extra vents ahead of the wheel arches, along with some new LED headlamps with a new daytime running light signature.
The third-generation BMW X1 was recently spied testing on the Nürburgring. Set to replace the current one, which has been around since 2015, it is expected to launch in late 2022 in Europe and should arrive in North America for the 2023 model year. It appears that the kidney grille will be significantly bigger, though probably not as big as the new 4-Series. Elsewhere, it is understood to feature slimmer headlights and new taillights, with the latter not being the final production units on this prototype.
The video below features three of the hottest Coupe SUVs you can buy today. It initially started as a comparison between the Audi RS Q8 and the BMW X6 M Competition but somehow a Lamborghini Urus found its way into the mix as well and we’re just gonna skip to the drag racing bit, starting around the 24-minute mark. As you’re about to see, the RS Q8 is doing rather well compared to the Urus, especially from a dig. Even so, the superior specs of the Italian bull show up as the two reach triple-digit speeds.
The latest Track Day YouTube video proves their performance prowess in a series of drag races that pits the BMW M8 Competition Convertible against the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the BMW M6 Competition, and a tuned BMW M240i just for fun. All three races, two rolling starts and one from a dig, have the M8 sweeping the M6. However, the more exciting race is between the M8 and the Taycan Turbo S.
All three of these Bimmers originally employ what sounds like the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. But on paper, the differences become enormous thanks to BMW’s different trim levels and a massive project from Evolve Automotive that has transformed an already impressive performer into something entirely different. Watch the video to see whether the extra investment in grunt seems worth it.
The BMW M8 Gran Coupe was taken up to Stage 2. That means apart from some ECU tuning, the car also has some bolt-on changes. From what we can gather, the intake was definitely changed, as we can see the sport filters peeking from behind the grilles up front. Most likely, the exhaust was changes as well and the turbos might’ve been meddled with. The total power output was therefore taken up to 850 HP
Fans of the BMW brand are not too eager to accept a performance model with the blue and white roundel on the hood, featuring a FWD setup. But can the 128ti change their minds? The guys from Carfection decided to try and find out for themselves.
Two driven axles, four doors, six-figure asking price, eight cylinders. If you stopped counting right there, little would separate the 2021 BMW M5 Competition and Porsche Panamera GTS. Both of these big sedans are capable of frankly indecent amounts of speed, all the while cocooning four adults in a den of leather and comfort. They are the latest and greatest in the long line of sport sedans from their respective creators.
The little-known M8 prototype was never given the green light for production, but it is still a remarkable feat of engineering. Credit the 6.1-liter V-12 under this big coupe’s hood, which, according to the video above, is just one of three such engines to exist. With 640-hp (more than the current BMW M8), the rear-drive BMW M8 prototype was surely a rocket. Plus, with a six-speed manual on board, it was definitely a hoot to manhandle, too.
Ahead of its official debut and based on the recent BMW X3 LCI leak, today we bring you a rendering of the BMW X3 M Facelift. The interior of the BMW X3 G01 LCI is not featured in this rendering, but we expect BMW to implement some innovations here as well. We will see the same S58 engine – now part of the BMW M3/M4 family as well – with 473 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque in the new X3 M, and at 503 hp in the Competition model.
Starting in July 2021, production of the M3 and M4 with xDrive all-wheel-drive will begin along with the xDrive40 and xDrive50 versions of the 2022 BMW iX electric SUV and the 4 Series Gran Coupe in 430i and M440ix form. The following month in August 2021, the next-generation BMW 2 Series Coupe will enter production, with the 230i and M240i variants slated to arrive in the United States. In November 2021, the 2022 BMW i4 electric sedan will enter production with eDrive40 and M50 versions, sharing a body with the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Top Gear recently featured a James Bond bit in one of its recent episodes. Afterwards, they had an idea — to create their very own Bond car. But they couldn’t do it alone. Instead, they turned to a man who regularly builds wild and sometimes crazy engineering projects — Colin Furze. What Furze did was take a BMW Z3 (fitting, as the Z3 actually was a Bond car for about five minutes) and turned it into a fully-functioning, gadget-laden Bond car for just £7,000.
